As we gather to celebrate Juneteenth, it’s important to recognize both progress and ongoing challenges. In the five years since Congress established Juneteenth as a national holiday on June 17, 2021, there has been a swift reversal of policies and initiatives aimed at promoting equality. These setbacks remind us that the struggle for civil rights and social justice remains ongoing, requiring continued dedication from communities across the nation. Despite these obstacles, Kensington and communities across the DMV and nation will celebrate the ideals of freedom on Juneteenth and we hope you will join us.
